Responsibilities

We are looking for a strong Quality Assurance Engineer with an active TS/SCI clearance who is interested in working at a subcontractor’s site in Denver, Colorado for approximately 1-2 years after completing about 3-4 months of work at JPL’s facility in Pasadena, California.  At the end of the temporary remote assignment in Denver, this position will then be based in Pasadena. 

As a QA Engineer, you will be a member of the Hardware Quality Assurance Project Leads Group (5122).  You will use your strong experience and knowledge in the electrical/electronic engineering field to help multi-discipline teams design, build, test hardware, solve complex problems, and report results verbally and in writing.  You will be responsible for creating, implementing, and managing the Hardware Quality Assurance Program for selected JPL mission(s) as JPL QA Resident in Colorado that is commensurate with the project risk posture.  You will lead and participate in design, test, manufacturing, and delivery reviews, establish and perform various mandatory inspection points during assembly and test activities, apply advanced knowledge in field to review suppliers plans (Workmanship Standards, ESD, Quality Assurance Implementation approaches), assess adequacy of supplier’s manufacturing and testing processes/capabilities, review engineering test plans, test procedures and provide concurrence prior to start of test, analyze inspection results and document findings with clear descriptions of non-conformances and standards used and act as the JPL Customer MRB representative.  Candidate will also assess risks real-time and use engineering judgment to call a Halt/Stop work when risks are deemed to be unacceptable during fabrication, integration, and test.

Qualifications

Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Mechanical, Manufacturing, Aerospace Engineering, or related technical discipline with typically a minimum of 9 years of related experience; Master’s degree in similar disciplines with a minimum of 7 years of related experience; or PhD in similar disciplines with a minimum of 5 years related experience. Advanced knowledge in Electrical Engineering or Electronics Manufacturing, along with one or more of the following areas is required:  Testing of Electronic Systems and Equipment, Risk Management, Quality Assurance and/or Quality Engineering.  Must have an understanding of principles, theories, concepts and techniques in the above areas in support of design, engineering, fabrication, integration, test and launch of space-flight hardware.  Successful candidate will possess the following:  Effective written and verbal communication skills, effective interpersonal and leadership skills, time management, ability to work both in teams and independently. 

AN ACTIVE TS/SCI SECURITY CLEARANCE IS REQUIRED FOR THIS POSITION

Desired additional qualifications for the position include: understanding of electronic/electrical/electromechanical, optical and mechanical manufacturing processes and associated inspection methods, understanding of Quality Management Systems (ISO 9001, AS9100, etc.), Process Variation, Deming’s approach to Systems and experience in fabrication and inspection of ASICs hybrid microcircuits, MCMs, crystal oscillators and relays.  Previous experience as a Quality Assurance Engineer, Manufacturing Engineer, Process Engineer, Test Engineer, and/or Electronics Technician is a plus.  Experience with computer software such as Microsoft Office, Access and Oracle to develop metrics, create presentations, and manage workload.  Ability to document processes, develop procedures and participate in process improvement activities.  Ability to read and interpret engineering drawings, specifications and procedures.
