If your interest has been sparked, we have a Electronics Manufacturing Engineer opportunity avialable in our Electronic Production Engineering Goup which provides manufacturing engineering support for fabricating printed wire boards and cable harness assemblies for instruments and spacecrafts.

Some Challenges You Will Tackle:

  • Review printed wiring board assemblies and cable harness designs.
  • Provide instructions for the build, assembly and test procedures to fabricate, assemble and test printed wiring assemblies and cable harnesses.
  • Collaborate with the machine shop regarding delivery of mechanical hardware.
  • Collaborate with JPL's Quality Assurance team to develop solutions to resolve discrepancies and development process improvements.
  • Define and scope tasks and acquire the resources to complete a task on time and on budget.  

Note: As a temporary position, this assignment may last up to 36 months in duration with approvals based on 12 months assignments. However, please note that you are not under any employment contract and your temporary employment status can be terminated at any time with or without notice.




You Must Have:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering or related technical discipline with a minimum of 6 years of related experience; Masters degree in similar disciplines with a minimum of 4 year of related experience; PhD with 2 years of related experience.
  • Strong ability to perfrom trade studies, review design requirements, and coordinate fabrication, assembly and qualification of hardware.
  • Broad knowledge of applicable industry and/or academic practices and standards in electro-mechanical systems including configuration, electronic packaging, cable harnessing and integration and test.
  • Broad knowledge in related fields of manufacturing and assembly of cable harnesses and printed wire assemblies.
  • Extensive understanding and wide application of advanced principles, theories, concepts and techniques in cable harnesses design and printed wiring assemblies.
  • Extensive experience interfacing with various suppliers and services including printed wiring board and mechanical fabrication, electronic assembly, project representatives and mission assurance.

  • Broad knowledge of applicable Laboratory policies and procedures, NASA policies and procedures, and government regulations.
  • Broad knowledge in Surface Mount Technology (SMT) techniques, processes and procedures.
  • Broad knowledge in Mechanical Analysis tool (FEM).
  • Experience with spacecraft flight hardware development and test.
  • Basic knowledge in Computer Aided Engineering (CAD) using tools such as Unigraphics NX or Solidworks.
  • Experience with Printed Wiring Board (PWB) design tools such as Mentor or Altium.
